Indochinese Center Holds Open House

The Wichita Indochinese Center in partnership with Butler Community College invite the public to an Open House. The Center was founded in 1985 to serve people from Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia (Indochina) who relocated to Wichita. Since then, the Center has expanded its reach to serve all adults whose first language is not English, as well as offer adult education classes. Last year, the Center partnered with Butler Community College. Currently, the Center serves students from 23 countries who speak more than 18 languages. They range in age from 18 to 80.

The Center helps adults learn English, as well as strengthen their communication skills. Students can apply to college, increase their financial literacy, learn workforce skills, study for the Naturalization/Citizenship exam and earn a Kansas State High School Diploma.

All members of the community are welcome to attend this event. Students will share their cultural heritage through displays and conversation, instructors will speak about the amazing accomplishments their students have made and the Center will serve light refreshments. The founder and current coordinator of the Indochinese Center, Mohan Kambampati, and Sherry Watkins, Butler’s Director of Adult Education, will answer questions.
